SDP Slams Wike Over Allocation of Historic Abuja Land to APC

The Social Democratic Party (SDP) has strongly condemned FCT Minister Nyesom Wike for allocating the historic Old Parade Ground in Abuja to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) for the construction of its new national secretariat. The party described the move as “executive recklessness and abuse of power” and called on President Bola Tinubu to revoke the allocation.

The SDP alleged that Wike approved the allocation of a two-hectare portion of the Parade Ground to the APC on August 8, 2025, bypassing normal administrative processes and waiving statutory fees. The party claimed that the Right of Occupancy and Certificate of Occupancy were issued on the same day, which it described as “highly irregular and suspicious.”

The SDP argued that the Old Parade Ground is a national monument with significant historical value and must be preserved for future generations. The party urged President Tinubu to act in the national interest and reverse the allocation, citing concerns about the conversion of national assets for partisan interests.

The SDP called on Nigerians to resist the appropriation of national monuments for partisan interests and demanded that public officials respect due process, transparency, and accountability in their actions. The party reiterated its commitment to defending Nigeria’s national assets and urged President Tinubu to override the allocation.
