Security Boost in Abia as Police Recover Guns, Arrest Suspects Ahead of Festive Season.

The Abia State Police Command has announced the arrest of three suspected gun runners and the recovery of seven firearms during an operation in Obingwa Local Government Area. The operation took place on Thursday, based on credible intelligence received by the police.

 

The suspects are identified as Nworu John, 65; Chikezie Ubani, 65; and Collins Ukandu, 55. According to DSP Maureen Chinaka, the Police Public Relations Officer, the police acted swiftly on actionable intelligence, which led to the interception of the suspects and the recovery of several weapons.

 

The recovered firearms include two automatic pump-action guns, three locally-made double-barrel guns, one single-barrel pump-action gun, a locally fabricated six-round revolver, and four live cartridges. The police have commenced detailed investigations and interrogation of the suspects to determine their full involvement and network.

 

The police spokesperson emphasized that the operation is part of the ongoing efforts by the Abia Police Command to ensure safety during the festive season. The police have also previously recovered arms, prosecuted suspects, and maintained operational strategies to sustain security across the state.

 

The Commissioner of Police, Danladi Isa, assured residents of Abia that the police are committed to curbing all forms of crime and maintaining peace. He urged the public to remain vigilant and to report any suspicious persons or activities immediately, either to the nearest police station or through emergency contact numbers provided by the police.

 

The police reiterated their commitment to a secure environment during the holiday period, emphasizing community cooperation in combating crime and ensuring safety in Abia State.
