Southern Governors and Traditional Rulers Converge in Ogun for Key Regional Summit
Governors from Nigeria’s southern states are gathering today in Iperu, Ogun State, for an important session of the Southern Governors’ Forum focused on addressing critical national issues and strengthening regional unity.
The meeting, set to commence at 10:00 a.m. at the Ogun State Governor’s residence in Iperu, was announced by Governor Dapo Abiodun, who also serves as the Forum’s Chairman.
In a move to foster greater consensus, the governors will later participate in a joint discussion with the Southern Traditional Rulers Council at 1:00 p.m. This session aims to explore shared regional interests and enhance collaboration between political leaders and traditional authorities.
Ahead of the main event, Governor Abiodun took to his official X (formerly Twitter) account to share his excitement about the early arrival of traditional rulers and regional leaders.
He remarked, “Their visit offers us an opportunity to deepen our ongoing engagements and align our shared expectations ahead of the gathering.”
The governor also highlighted the importance of their counsel, stating, “We value the presence of our royal fathers and regional leaders, whose wisdom and guidance continue to enrich our discussions.”
Abiodun reaffirmed his commitment as host to creating an environment that encourages open dialogue and fosters stronger cooperation among all stakeholders, with the goal of promoting peace, stability, and development in the region—and by extension, the nation.
This summit is expected to build upon previous resolutions of the Forum, which has consistently called for enhanced cooperation on security, economic growth, and infrastructure development in the southern part of Nigeria.
