SPARKWEST STEEL INDUSTRY WORKERS PROTEST UNLAWFUL SUSPENSION AND APPOINTMENT TERMINATION BY MANAGEMENT
Workers at sparkwest steel industry, Ode-Lemo road, Sagamu, on Tuesday protested against the ill-treatment melted by the management and top officials of the company.
The grievance started In the organization between the workers and management when an internal memo was sent on the 6th of October inciting a declaration of emergency and suspension of all factory operations.
This was seen as gross misconduct by the management, and an attempt for them to escape the payment of important arrears and benefits. However, the protest also circles one-month unpaid salary, eighty-six months of unremitted staff pension, unremitted tax since 2007, and over fifty-nine million of unremitted corporative deduction.
Speaking during the protest, one of the workers said,” we are not here for anything bad. All we want is for the management to do what is right because before you plan to close up an organization, you should be prepared to settle all your staff accordingly.”
“We are ready to have a negotiation with the management. If it comes out positive, we will start work with immediate effect. All we are fighting for is our right and what we deserve.”
As of the time of filling this report, information got to us that the workers have been called by the area commander and the management for reconciliation and adequate discussion.
