Speeding Driver Claims Lives of Siblings in Tragic Ogun Accident

In a devastating incident on the Imowo-Ibadan Road in the Ijebu Ode Local Government Area of Ogun State, two teenage pedestrians, suspected to be siblings, lost their lives after being struck by a speeding vehicle. The tragedy unfolded around 8 a.m. on Monday when the driver of a Honda car, reportedly driving at an excessive speed, collided with the teenagers, resulting in their untimely deaths.

Bolaji Akinbiyi, the spokesperson for the Ogun State Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Agency (TRACE), revealed the grim details. Eyewitnesses recounted that the Honda car, navigating the road at high speed, lost control and crashed into the siblings, who were walking by the roadside, backing traffic.

The immediate aftermath of the accident saw the lifeless bodies of the teenagers and a heightened emotional atmosphere. Local youths in the vicinity expressed their grief and anger by attempting to attack the driver and set the vehicle ablaze. The situation was brought under control through the swift intervention of TRACE officials, the Army, the police, and other emergency responders.

Akinbiyi added, “The accident vehicle has been towed to Obalende Police Station, Ijebu-Ide, for further investigation. At the same time, the bodies of the two siblings (male and female) have been deposited at the Ijebu-Ode General Hospital mortuary.”

TRACE, in its response, extended condolences to the grieving family and emphasized the need for both drivers and pedestrians to exercise caution on the roads. The agency urged drivers to avoid excessive speed, emphasizing the severe consequences associated with high-speed driving. Pedestrians were also reminded to prioritize safety by facing oncoming traffic rather than walking with their backs to it.
