Street-pop Artiste Portable Appeals to EFCC, Pledges to Cease Spraying Money

Habeeb Okikiola, popularly known as Portable, a street-pop artiste, has reached out to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) requesting leniency for his actions of spraying money during public appearances. His plea comes in the wake of recent legal actions taken against individuals for Naira mutilation offenses, including crossdresser Idris Okuneye, also known as Bobrisky, who received a six-month jail sentence, and nightlife promoter Cubana Chief Priest, against whom the EFCC filed charges for currency misuse.

During an Instagram live session on Tuesday, Portable expressed remorse for his past actions and urged his admirers to open bank accounts, emphasizing his commitment to conducting financial transactions through transfers rather than the physical act of spraying money. He clarified that he did not deface the Naira and appealed to the EFCC for forgiveness, acknowledging the ongoing investigations into currency abuse involving several celebrities.

In his statement, Portable stressed his desire to comply with legal standards and refrain from engaging in activities that could contravene currency regulations. He urged his fans to embrace digital banking solutions as a more responsible approach to financial transactions, signaling his intention to align with regulatory requirements and avoid further legal complications.
