Sultan of Sokoto Declares Date for Eid Al-Adha Celebrations in Nigeria
The President of the Nigeria Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs and Sultan of Sokoto, Muhammad Sa‘ad Abubakar, has declared Monday, June 19, 2023, as the first day of Zul-Hijjah 1444 AH. This follows the sighting of the new Crescent signifying the end of the month of Zul-Qida. The Sultan of Sokoto has also announced that Wednesday, June 28, 2023, will be the day of Eidul Adha 1444 AH Eid Kabir.
Eid Al-Adha, also known as the Festival of Sacrifice, is a significant event in the Islamic calendar. Muslims around the world celebrate the day to commemorate the willingness of Prophet Ibrahim to sacrifice his son Ismail as an act of obedience to God. Muslims celebrate the day by performing a special prayer, sharing food with family and friends, and giving to charity.
