Support for Tinubu Reforms Floods NASS as Protesters Advocate End to Nationwide Strike

In an overwhelming display of solidarity, thousands of Nigerians descended on the National Assembly complex, rallying in support of the transformative reforms initiated by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to reshape the nation. Gathering at the Abuja Unity Fountain, the demonstrators embarked on a peaceful march to the National Assembly, urging the Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC) to reconsider its nationwide strike.
Brandishing various placards endorsing the Bola Ahmed Tinubu-led administration, the protesters conveyed messages such as “President Tinubu is rebuilding Nigeria for sustainable economic development,” “Nigerians, let’s be patient with the president,” and “President Tinubu is restructuring Nigeria for the better.” The fervent expressions continued with statements like “With Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Nigeria would be great again,” and “Subsidy cabals are sponsoring protests against the government.”
Under the leadership of Kabiru Mohammed Matazu, the demonstrators emphasized that President Tinubu’s administration has exhibited unwavering commitment to promptly addressing the challenges faced by Nigerians. They passionately appealed to the NLC to engage in constructive dialogue with the government instead of resorting to a nationwide strike that could disrupt economic activities and further burden the common citizen.
Matazu stated, “The government of President Tinubu inherited multifaceted problems confronting the nation. These problems are enormous, and when he came on board, he introduced reforms that would liberate Nigeria from economic segregation. That was why he removed fuel subsidy the first day he assumed duty.”
He further explained, “We implore the NLC to reconsider their protest action and embrace dialogue in their pursuit of resolution. While we stand united with the NLC in advocating for the legitimate demands of workers, we vehemently oppose any attempt to disrupt economic activities through unnecessary protests. Such actions can be easily exploited by miscreants, leading to mayhem and destruction.”
Acknowledging the peaceful conduct of the protesters, Malam Sani Abdulahi Zakari from the Sergeant at Arms office of the National Assembly expressed gratitude and assured the conveyance of the protesters’ position to the leadership of the National Assembly.
