SYA, SPAF Warn Against Fake Rumours: “Sagamu Remains Peaceful — Ignore Cult-Clash Propaganda”
The Sagamu Youth Association (SYA) under the leadership of Comrade Olugbenga Isiaka Lawal (Ambassador Easy), in collaboration with the Sagamu Peace Agenda Forum (SPAF) under the chairmanship of Prince Labi Allison, has issued a strong and unified warning against the spread of false rumours being circulated across social media. These misleading claims was originally posted and amplified by Naija Confra, alleged that a recently arrested member of the Aye confraternity attempted to secure release through some set of people within the community.
This allegation is not only untrue but is also a calculated attempt to create tension, incite fear, and distort the peace currently being enjoyed in Sagamu. The joint leadership of SYA and SPAF wishes to state clearly that neither organisation has any involvement in interfering with police investigations, protecting offenders, or seeking the release of any individual arrested for activities that threaten public peace.
In a firm reaction, the Chairman of the Sagamu Peace Agenda Forum, Prince Labi Allison, described the rumours as malicious, misleading, and damaging to the ongoing collective efforts aimed at sustaining harmony in Sagamu. He stressed that SPAF remains committed to peacebuilding and will never provide cover for any individual, group, or organisation involved in criminality. According to him, the peace of Sagamu is paramount, and anyone found culpable of disrupting it must face the full weight of the law. He stated emphatically that SPAF will not condone violence, neither will it harbour any perpetrator attempting to sabotage the hard-earned peace in the community.
Also speaking, the President of the Sagamu Youth Association (SYA) condemned the rumour as reckless and irresponsible. He commended ASP Fred Ode, the Divisional Police Officer of Igbobi (Awolowo) Police Station in Sagamu for his swift intervention and professional handling of the situation. He further applauded the SPAF Chairman for standing firm and refusing to shield any youth involved in activities that contradict the mission of peace and progress in Sagamu. The SYA President reiterated that the association supports law enforcement efforts and remains fully committed to promoting responsible youth behaviour.
Both organisations strongly encourage residents of Sagamu to disregard the fake reports and continue their daily activities without fear. There is no cult clash, no threat to safety, and no credible information suggesting any unrest within the community. People are urged to go to work, open their shops, attend to their businesses, and carry on with their hustle in peace. Sagamu remains calm, secure, and well-policed, and the public is advised not to succumb to panic induced by false narratives.
Furthermore, the Sagamu Youth Association is calling on security agencies to thoroughly investigate all those media outlets involved for the deliberate dissemination of harmful misinformation capable of destabilizing the community. Such reckless reporting undermines public trust and poses a direct threat to communal stability. SYA also urges the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) Ogun State Chapter, to summon the handlers of Sagamu Update for questioning and take appropriate disciplinary action against anyone culpable to deter future acts of unprofessional journalism.
In conclusion, SYA and SPAF reaffirm their unwavering commitment to promoting unity, safeguarding peace, and ensuring the safety of every resident of Sagamu. The organisations remain united in their stance that no individual or group will be allowed to jeopardize the stability of the community. Rumour merchants, fake reporters, and agents of chaos are warned to desist or be prepared to face the consequences under the law.
