Ealier today in Ota, a tanker loaded with 33,000 litres of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) has been reported to have fallen. Confirmed by Adekunle Ajibade, the South-West Area Commander of TRACE. He explained that the tanker coming from Lagos rolled back while ascending a hill and fell on its side at Akeja road.
Following the accident, the roads were completely blocked, causing a major traffic jam. To maintain order, officials from TRACE, the police, NUPENG, and the Fire Services were present at the scene. As a precautionary measure, the road has been closed to prevent any further accidents.
Ajibade mentioned a couple of alternative routes for motorists to consider. One option is to take command road — Osi – I kola road, or the usage of Lagos/Abeokuta expressway. The process of trans loading the tanker has already begun, and once it’s completed, the vehicle will be removed.
Ajibade also took the opportunity to remind tanker drivers to avoid reckless driving and to install speed limit devices in their vehicles. “Safety should always be a top priority.” He added.
