The Collectives Club Celebrates Unity and Community Spirit with Colorful Sports Day at Akarigbo Palace, Sagamu
The Collectives Club hosted a vibrant and colorful Sports Day at the historic Akarigbo Palace in Sagamu, Ogun State, on Saturday. The event officially commenced at 11:00 a.m., drawing members and guests to partake in a day filled with lively activities and camaraderie.
The proceedings were anchored by the popular Master of Ceremonies, MC Adaptor, who kept the atmosphere lively throughout the event. The program began with an opening prayer led by Dr. Toluwalope Ogunjimi, one of the children of the Collectives, setting a tone of unity and gratitude.
Following the prayer, brief remarks were delivered by the Vice President of the club, Mr. Lanre Solarin. He then officially introduced the President, Engineer Wole Ogunsanya, who delivered the opening address. In his speech, the President warmly welcomed distinguished royal fathers in attendance such as HRM Oba Dr. Babatunde Adewale Ajayi, Torungbuwa II, the Akarigbo and paramount Ruler of Remoland, Radanuwa of Idado, HRH Oba Musiliu Oriyomi Soile, Kabiesi Alayeluwa Oba A.A Adeniji, Oniraniken Of Iraniken, Kabiesi Alayeluwa Oba Jamiu Olalekan Sule-Onosipe, Onigode of Igode, Members of the Collectives club, Wifes and Children of the Club. He emphasized the importance of unity, wellness, and the role of sports in strengthening bonds within the community.
A major highlight of the day was the 5-a-side football match between Team A, known as Orange House, and Team B, Blue House. Team A included players such as Bankey, Sir Teju, Akewusola, Olumide, Iyanu, Hakeem, Soloyefuga, and Anjola. Team B featured Sammy, L.S, Jensola, Kofo, Ogunjimi, Fareedat, among others. After an exciting contest, Orange House narrowly secured victory with a 1–0 win.
The tug-of-peace game also drew considerable attention, with men competing in two teams: the President’s team and the Vice President’s team. The President’s team emerged victorious in this friendly contest. The women’s category followed, featuring the President’s wife’s team against the Vice President’s wife’s team, with the President’s wife’s team winning the day.
Another memorable moment was the table tennis match between the Akarigbo of Remoland and the Oniraniken of Iraniken. The friendly encounter thrilled spectators, with the Akarigbo of Remoland emerging as the winner.
Following the sporting activities, the Akarigbo of Remoland delivered a brief goodwill message. He expressed his gratitude to the members of the Collectives Club, Family members, guests, and well wishers. He extended an invitation to everyone to attend the final celebration scheduled for the 27th December, at his personal residence.
The event continued with the presentation of trophies and awards by the President of the Collectives Club, recognizing outstanding performances and active participation. The program concluded with a vote of thanks from the Vice President, Mr. Lanre Solarin, who appreciated all members, royal fathers, organizers, and guests for their contributions in making the Sports Day a success.
Adding to the festive atmosphere were other fun-filled activities, including the ball and cone game, cup flip game, apple game, and an energetic aerobic session organized specially for women. Several other novelty games also contributed to the lively mood of the day.
The successful Sports Day ended on a joyful and celebratory note, reaffirming the Collectives Club’s dedication to promoting unity, healthy living, and community engagement in Sagamu.
