The Humanitarian Business Mogul

Chief Kessington Adebukunola Adebutu popularly known as “Baba Ijebu” is a renowned industrialist, an astute businessman and a philanthropist who was born on the 24th of October 1935 to late Alhaji Karimu and late Alhaja Seliat Adebutu of Iperu-Remo.

 

He started his schooling at Ijero Baptist School, Apapa Road, Ebute-Meta in Lagos before proceeding to Baptist Academy, Lagos for his secondary education in 1951 and completed at the famous Remo Secondary School (RSS), Sagamu, Ogun state in 1955. Though he never studied Law like he wanted, but that didn’t stop him from attending several leadership and management development courses, locally and internationally.

 

After his secondary education, he was employed at the Cable and Wireless Limited before joining Classic Chemical Limited, a pharmaceutical company that produces Andrew’s Liver Salt, Cafenol and amongst other drugs. He rose from the position of a Salesman to the position of a Sales Manager before he left the company to establish his “Premier lotto” (Baba Ijebu), a business that

brought him to limelight. With the huge proceeds realized from the pooling business, they expanded the business and ventured into other businesses like agriculture, manufacturing, estate management, entertainment and so on.

 

His love for education has seen him contribute immensely to the growth of many educational institution within and outside Ogun State. He donated a state-of-the-art library to the young Crescent University, Abeokuta in 2009; He donated a N50 million e-library to the Baptist Academy, Obanikoro, Lagos State, The Sir Kessington Adebutu multimillion-

naira state of the art radio station to Olabisi Onabanjo University, Ago Iwoye, an ultra-modern Centre to the University of Lagos; the Alhaja Seliat Adebutu Library at Crescent University and the Sir Kessington Adebutu Science Laboratory; new Remo Methodist High School building and new block of classrooms at Gaskiya College, Badiya, Lagos among others.

 

Through his foundation, the Kessington Adebukunola Adebutu Foundation (KAAF) has also played a significant role in empowering youths round the country. He has donated huge amounts of money to the less-privileged and hospital patients

 

He has earned many chieftaincy titles for the recognition of his works towards community developments. His generosity and philanthropy earned him his first ever chieftaincy title “Babalaje of Lagos”, and his subsequent conferment as the “Asoju Oba of Lagos” Others are: Babalaje of Lagos, Olotu of Lagos, Balogun of Iperu Remo, Baba Oba of Iperu Remo, Akogun of Remoland, Bobaselu of Ondo Kingdom, Baba Oba of Noforija Kingdom, Epe and the Baba Oba Iperuland.. In October 2015, Chief Kessington Adebutu was decorated with a honorary title “Doctor of Business Administration” by the Olabisi Onabanjo University (OOU), for his invaluable contribution to the nation’s economy.
