One of the most respectable people in the society are the monarch, a position that serves and rules. And one of these people is HRM Sikiru Kayode Adetona, the Awujale of the great Ijebu land.

Born in Ijebu Ode, Ogun State, Nigeria, on May 10, Oba Adetona was educated at Baptist School, Ereko, Ijebu Ode; Ogbere United Primary School, Oke Agbo, Ijebu Igbo; and Ansar-Ud-Deen School, Ijebu Ode. He then went on to study at the University of Ibadan, where he earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in History.

After graduating from university, Oba Adetona worked as a civil servant in the Western Region of Nigeria where he was appointed as the Secretary to the Western Region Ministry of Education in 1959. In 1960, he was chosen to succeed his father, Oba Adeleke.

Being an Awujale is no easy task, but great men are born out of challenge. Oba Adetona has been a strong advocate for traditional values and has worked to promote the development of Ijebuland. He has also been a vocal critic of corruption and has called for good governance in Nigeria. The yearly ‘Ojude Oba’ gained a wide recognition and audience since he became the Awujale, thereby bringing Ijebuland to many viable opportunities.
Oba Adetona is a living legend, a true statesman, and a man of the people. He has dedicated his life to serving and development of his community and to promoting the development of Nigeria.

Oba Adetona is a respected figure in Nigeria and has been awarded several honors, including the Grand Commander of the Order of the Niger (GCON).

Oba Adetona is a man of many talents and accomplishments. He is a scholar, a statesman, a philanthropist, and a cultural icon. He is a true inspiration to all who know him.

Year in and year out, his dedication, hardwork and statesmanship is being recognized in and out of Ijebu land. He became the first Nigerian monarch to be awarded a PhD degree, the first Nigerian monarch to be appointed as a member of the Federal Executive Council, the first Nigerian monarch to be elected as the President of the Nigerian Traditional Rulers’ Council.
