Tinubu requests Senate approval for appointment of NERC chairman
President Bola Tinubu has submitted a formal letter to the Senate, requesting the confirmation of Engr. Abdullahi Ramat as the Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC).
The letter, which detailed the President’s nomination, was read on the Senate floor on Tuesday by the Senate President, Godswill Akpabio, as lawmakers reconvened for plenary after their annual recess.
The National Assembly had embarked on its annual break on July 24, 2025 — a period traditionally set aside for legislators to engage with their constituencies and attend to personal matters. Initially scheduled to resume on September 23, the Senate later extended the recess by two additional weeks, reconvening on October 7, 2025.
With the resumption of legislative activities, the Senate is now expected to screen and deliberate on the President’s nominee, marking one of the first major items on its agenda after the extended break.
