Tinubu Revisits ‘Emi Lo Kan’ Campaign, Declares End to Economic Hardship
President Bola Tinubu has announced that the country’s economic hardship is now over.
Speaking on Friday at Mapo Hall in Ibadan, Oyo State, during the coronation of His Imperial Majesty Oba Adewolu Ladoja as the 44th Olubadan of Ibadanland, the President combined words of congratulations to the new monarch with a message of reassurance to Nigerians.
Tinubu declared that the nation’s economy has “turned a corner,” adding that “a bright light is at the end of the tunnel.”
Tinubu said he was thanking the public for their perseverance and endurance.
“Your suffering has been as painful to us as a painful surgery. But the economy has now returned to a moment of growth and prosperity,” President Tinubu said.
Tinubu’s remarks came during the installation of Oba Ladoja, a former Governor of Oyo State, who ascended the throne after a 32-year progression through the city’s traditional chieftaincy system.
Tinubu said, “Kabiyesi, happy birthday to you once again. Today, I am honoured and feel very proud to give you the cheering news that the economy has turned a corner. There is a bright light at the end of the tunnel.

In his address, Tinubu also extended warm congratulations to the renowned businessman and monarch, His Imperial Majesty Oba Adewolu Ladoja, Arusa I, on the occasion of his coronation as the 44th Olubadan of Ibadanland.
The landmark ceremony drew thousands to the ancient city and provided Tinubu an opportunity to reflect on the political support he received from Ibadan during his presidential campaign. “I once came to Oke Mopo to seek your support and told you ‘Emi lo’kan’ (it’s my turn). Today, we are there. Thank you very much,” he said, recalling his famous campaign slogan.
The President described it as a privilege to witness Oba Ladoja’s coronation, noting the history, expectations, and continuity it represents as he ascends the throne of his forebears.
Oba Ladoja’s emergence is particularly significant as he becomes the first former governor of Oyo State to assume the revered title of Olubadan—an ascension that reinforces his status as both a political and traditional leader, symbolically bridging modern governance with age-old customs.
