Traditional Rulers in Remo North Donate Land, Buildings to Boost OGPDPA’s Local Operations
In a move hailed as a major boost to regional development, two leading traditional rulers in Remo North Local Government Area of Ogun State—Oba Obafemi Saliu, the Ologere of Ogere, and Oba Taiwo Taiwo, the Onipara of Ipara—have each made prime property available to the Ogun State Planning and Development Permit Authority (OGPDPA).
Oba Saliu has granted a parcel of land for the Authority’s office use, while Oba Taiwo has provided existing buildings for both office and staff residential accommodation. Their contributions are expected to give OGPDPA a permanent, on‐site presence, enabling more effective regulation of building standards and land use.
During separate appreciation visits to their palaces, Acting General Manager of OGPDPA TPl Itunu Jolaoluwa explained that local offices will help curb flooding and building collapses by enforcing planning regulations at the grassroots. She added that improved oversight will also ensure towns are better planned and more attractive.
Oba Saliu said his land donation aligns with his vision to turn Ogere into “a source of pride for indigenes at home and abroad.” “I want those in the diaspora to return and see a transformed, attractive hometown,” he noted.
Echoing that optimism, Oba Taiwo expressed confidence that the Authority’s new facilities will accelerate physical development in Ipara and enhance residents’ quality of life. Both monarchs also urged overseas indigenes to invest in local projects, stressing that such support is vital to preserving community identity and heritage.
The visits concluded with OGPDPA presenting both Oba Saliu and Oba Taiwo with awards of excellence, in the presence of their chiefs-in-council.
