Traffic Diversion Announced for Ikeja Along Bus Stop
The Lagos State Government has scheduled a two-day traffic diversion at the Ikeja Along Bus Stop, between Ile Zik and Conoil Filling Station on the Oshodi-bound lane of the Lagos-Abeokuta Expressway. This diversion is set to facilitate the demolition of the old pedestrian bridge in the area.
According to an announcement made by the state Ministry of Transportation via their X handle on Thursday, the traffic diversion will occur from Saturday, August 17, 2024, to Sunday, August 18, 2024, with road closures between 12 a.m. and 4 a.m. each day. Motorists traveling along the Oshodi-bound lane during these hours will experience limited access as only one lane will be available for movement.
The state Commissioner for Transportation, Oluwaseun Osiyemi, provided clarity on the diversion plan, stating that it would not impact motorists on the Dopemu/Abule Egba bound side of the road. Osiyemi emphasized that the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) would be on-site to manage vehicular flow and minimize disruption.
He assured that the necessary precautions, including the use of jersey barriers and protective nets, would be implemented to ensure the safety of both motorists and pedestrians during the demolition process.
Motorists are urged to exercise patience during the diversion period, as the temporary closure is crucial for the safe removal of the aging pedestrian bridge by the Lagos Metropolitan Area Transport Authority (LAMATA).
