Two killed, three injured in Ogun road crashes
At least two people have died in three separate road accidents that occurred on Tuesday along the Abeokuta–Sagamu Expressway and the Ijebu–Benin Expressway.
Three others sustained varying degrees of injuries in the crashes, which were attributed to speeding and reckless driving.
The incidents come just two days after a hit-and-run driver fatally knocked down a pedestrian in the Ogudu area of the Lagos–Ibadan Expressway.
Confirming the development on Tuesday, the spokesperson for the Ogun State Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Agency, Babatunde Akinbiyi, said the first crash, which occurred around 12 pm on the Ijebu–Benin Expressway, involved four persons.
According to Akinbiyi, one person was killed while two others sustained different injuries in the crash along the Ogbere section of the expressway.
He said, “A fatal RTA at the Ogbere Bridge along the Benin-Ore/Ijebu-Ode Expressway at about 1250hrs.
Four people, including two males and two females, (were involved). It involved a Hilux vehicle and a truck.
“According to an eyewitness account, the driver of the Hillux drove in a direction prohibited by the traffic law and had a head-on collision with the truck
One male adult died, and two female adults sustained injuries.
The injured victims were rushed to Ola Oluwa Hospital, Ogbere, by TRACE operatives, and the presumed dead victim was taken to Ijebu-Ode General Hospital morgue by FRSC.”
According to Akinbiyi, the other accidents were cases of hit-and-run along the Abeokuta–Sagamu Expressway.
He explained that one person was injured after being knocked down by a hit-and-run driver at the Siun Junction, but the victim was quickly taken to Sun Health Centre by a Good Samaritan.
Another hit-and-run occurred at the Kobape Junction, a few kilometres from Siun, where a pedestrian lost his life.
The driver was later apprehended around the Day Waterman axis by residents, while the body of the deceased was handed over to the Owode Police Command for further action.
Akinbiyi noted that traffic was not disrupted during the incidents.
