Uncompleted Building Collapses in Ogun State
An uncompleted storey building located in Ogijo, Sagamu Local Government Area of Ogun state, collapsed at about 7am on June 8th. The building, which had been abandoned for over 10 years, caved in without warning. No lives were lost in the incident.
According to eyewitnesses, the building had been erected to the roofing stage and had provided temporary accommodation to some motorcycle riders before they were sent away for posing threats to the community. While the cause of the building collapse cannot be verified yet, it may be connected with the weakness of the structure having been abandoned for a long period of time.
The incident has raised concerns over the safety of uncompleted buildings in the state, and calls have been made to the government to ensure that such buildings are properly monitored to prevent future occurrences.
