US Threatens Visa Restrictions on Corrupt Nigerian Elites

The United States Mission in Nigeria has restated its commitment to the global fight against corruption, warning that anyone found guilty of corrupt practices, regardless of rank or influence, risks being denied entry into the country.
The Mission issued the statement on its official X (formerly Twitter) handle on Monday, noting:
“Corruption has no borders, and accountability has no limits. Even high-profile figures involved in corruption can be refused US visas.”
In May 2023, the United States revealed that it had imposed visa restrictions on individuals found to have disrupted Nigeria’s general elections.
In a statement published on the US State Department’s website, Secretary of State Antony Blinken said:
“The United States remains committed to promoting and defending democracy in Nigeria and globally. Today, I announce that we have taken measures to place visa restrictions on certain individuals in Nigeria who undermined the democratic process during the country’s 2023 election cycle.”US Threatens Visa Restrictions on Corrupt Nigerian Elites
