VeryDarkMan Offers to Fund Video Shoot for Eedris Abdulkareem’s Song Banned by NBC
Controversial activist VeryDarkMan has announced plans to fund the video shoot for the newly banned protest song “Tell Your Papa” by Eedris Abdulkareem, which was recently prohibited by the Nigerian government.
The ban was instituted by the Federal Government through the National Broadcasting Commission (NBC), which labeled the song as “inappropriate and offensive” on Thursday. Interestingly, this ban has garnered significant attention for the song, which had previously gone unnoticed.
In response to the government’s action, VeryDarkMan criticized the ban, asserting that the themes expressed in the song reflect the harsh realities faced by Nigeria, including widespread hardship and insecurity. He voiced his support for Abdulkareem and pledged to help create a new version of the music video.
In a video message shared on his social media platform, VeryDarkMan stated, “I visited Eedris Abdulkareem’s page and saw the notification from the NBC regarding the ban on ‘Tell Your Papa.’ In his song, he addresses Seyi Tinubu, the son of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, urging him to inform his father about the struggles citizens face and the deaths resulting from these issues.”
He went on to criticize the government for trying to silence discussions about the difficulties Nigerians are enduring. “This ban shows they are aware of the problems but prefer to suppress voices that seek change. Instead of relying on radio or television—which have limited reach nowadays—we’re taking this to social media.”
“Eedris Abdulkareem, we will shoot a new video together. I’m in, and we’ll even cast a lookalike for Tinubu since it’s unlikely we’ll get the President to participate. We’re calling it ‘Tell Your Papa 2’ and we’ll make sure to highlight even more critical issues.”
VeryDarkMan concluded by emphasizing the need for people to raise their voices against the government’s attempt to control media narratives and suppress dissenting opinions.
