WAEC Sets Record Straight on Ogun State Results Controversy

The West Africa Examination Council (WAEC) has moved swiftly to debunk allegations that the results of some public school students in Ogun State were withheld due to the state government’s purported debt to the examination body.

At a press briefing on Tuesday, Ayobami Suberu, WAEC’s Ogun State Branch Controller, vehemently denied the claims, labeling them “mischievous and unbalanced.” Suberu assured stakeholders that the Ogun State Government is not indebted to WAEC and attributed the delay in releasing the results to a technical snag.

“We are working diligently to resolve the technical issue and expect to release the withheld results before the end of the day,” Suberu stated. He emphasized the importance of responsible journalism, stressing that reporters should seek WAEC’s perspective before publishing stories.

This clarification comes on the heels of WAEC’s announcement that results for 1,685,889 candidates, representing 93.9% of those who sat for the examination, have been released. The examination body is working to resolve the technical issue, and the remaining results are expected to be released shortly.
