We Don’t Have Enough Work Force, Lagos State Police Laments

The Lagos State Police Force laments that its 17,000 personnel are inadequate to effectively police the state in the forthcoming general elections.

Benjamin Hundeyin the Command’s Public Relations Officer and also Superintendent spoke during a political discourse ‘General Elections Seminar Series’ held by the Department of Political Science, Faculty of Social Sciences, University of Lagos.

Superintendent Hundeyin, was one of the panelists that considered the topic “Is a storm brewing towards 2023? The challenges of violence and electoral competition in Nigeria.”

Stating the challenges facing the security agencies, particularly the police, the PPRO said though the Command was doing everything possible to prevent electoral violence, its officials were inadequate.

“We have 17,000 officers but many are with companies, individuals and that is a challenge. And that is why we are collaborating with all stakeholders to nip in the bud any form of electoral violence
Notwithstanding, the police image-maker assured that the police had joined forces with other security agencies to provide adequate security.

He promised that they would continue to ensure the environment was always conducive for all political parties.

“We are well prepared for the 2023 election. You would agree with me that recently we have had a series of campaigns by the different political parties in Lagos and there has been no issue so far. He said there was a need for all the security agencies to work in unity to deliver safe and violence-free elections
