We will continue to ensure a cordial relationship with the legislature- Ganiyu Hamzat
The Commissioner of Ogun State Ministry of Local Government and Chieftain Affairs, Ganiyu Hamzat, has promised to ensure a cordial relationship with the legislature to give their best to the people at the grassroots, he stated this while he was playing host to the Assembly’s Committee on Local Government and Chieftain during their familiarization visit to his office, he assured the legislators of the ministry’s unwavering resolve to maintain a cordial working relationship with them.
Hamzat, who noted that the ministry had so far enjoyed a good working relationship with the committee in resolving local council and chieftain issues, gave the assurance that the ministry under his administration would embark on monitoring all the 20 councils for project evaluation to justify the grants released to them as it is the responsibility of the ministry to monitor the activities of the councils, to ensure the judicious use of funds released by the state government for the execution of projects.
“The plan was that by the end of the year, the 236 wards in the state must have at least a project to boast of,” the commissioner
noted.
In his remarks, the Permanent Secretary in the ministry, Kolawole Fagbohun, said the state government had not in any way tampered with councils’ funds, adding that it had rather on several occasions come to the aid of the councils whenever there are shortfalls in their monthly allocations.
Chairman of the committee, Lateef Bolanle, lauded the ministry for its determination in ensuring that both the councils and
traditional institutions in the state are well taken care of.
