Young Graduate Murdered by Suspected Herdsmen During Abuja Boys’ Brigade Camping Event
A tragic incident has taken the life of a young Igala graduate, John Johnson, who was reportedly killed by suspected herdsmen in Zaina, near Angwar Hakimi, Orozo, within the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja. This heartbreaking event occurred on March 29, 2025, while Johnson was at a Boys’ Brigade camp.
Johnson’s family was already grappling with sorrow, having lost his father the previous year after a lengthy illness. The Chief of Igala in Orozo, Amadu Zachariah, confirmed the gruesome attack and expressed his disappointment at the lack of progress in apprehending the assailants.
According to Zachariah, the Boys’ Brigade had organized a camping event, but due to impending rain, the group relocated to a nearby church. Two leaders returned to collect their belongings when they were ambushed by individuals believed to be herdsmen. One leader managed to escape, while Johnson was tragically killed.
Zachariah recounted the incident, stating, “Unfortunately, rain was threatening to fall, so they moved the children to a nearby church. The two leaders went back to retrieve their belongings when they were attacked. One leader escaped, while Johnson sadly lost his life.”
After the attack, villagers were alerted by the leader who had escaped, but when they reached the scene to rescue Johnson, it was too late. After being notified, the police investigated the incident and found that the suspected herdsmen had fled the area. The local Fulani community’s leaders have promised to help identify the attackers, yet no arrests have been made as of now.
“The police arrived and found that the suspected herdsmen had packed their belongings and left,” Zachariah explained. “The police and local authorities asked the Fulani leaders about the whereabouts of the attackers, and they requested time to locate them. However, no arrests have been made to date.”
The brutal killing has left Johnson’s family and community reeling in shock and grief, with hopes for justice from the authorities. The Fortress Ministry in Abuja released an official statement regarding Johnson’s death. Signed by Rev. Samuel Ikani, the statement described him as a martyr who upheld his faith in the Gospel of Jesus Christ.
“We announce with deep sorrow but unwavering faith in Jesus Christ the passing of our beloved brother, Bro. Johnson Enyo-Ojo John, who transitioned to glory on March 29, 2025,” the statement read. “Bro. Johnson was martyred while standing firm in his commitment to the Gospel. He inspired us with his courage and love for God.”
The church also requested prayers for Johnson’s mother and siblings during this challenging time, emphasizing that they may find strength and peace in their grief.
Attempts to contact SP Josephine Adeh, spokesperson for the FCT Police Command, for comments on the incident were unsuccessful, as she did not respond to calls or messages.
