House of Reps Asks President Tinubu to Declare State of Emergency on Drug Abuse

The House of Representatives has passed a motion of urgent national importance asking President Bola Tinubu to declare a state of emergency on drug abuse in the country. The motion was raised by Francis Agbo, who drew attention to the efforts of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) to rid the country of hard drugs.

The House expressed concern about the equipment and weapons available to the NDLEA and called for an increase in the budgetary allocation to the agency. The lawmakers also want the NDLEA to be funded directly by the Presidency.

The call for a state of emergency on drug abuse highlights the urgent need to address the growing problem of drug abuse in the country. The House’s decision to hold its valedictory session on Tuesday June 6, 2023, is a reminder of the need for urgent action to tackle this issue.
