Delta State Governor Celebrates Okonjo-Iweala's 69th Birthday

Delta State Governor Sheriff Oborevwori has congratulated Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, the Director-General of the World Trade Organization (WTO), on her 69th birthday. Okonjo-Iweala, who hails from Ogwashi-Uku in Delta State, is the first female Director-General of WTO and the first African to head the global trade body.

In his statement, Governor Oborevwori described her as an epitome of integrity, professionalism, and a huge role model to the girl-child. He also commended her for the innovations she brought to Nigeria when she served as Finance Minister under President Olusegun Obasanjo and President Goodluck Jonathan.

The Governor also acknowledged the numerous awards and recognition Okonjo-Iweala has received over the years, saying that Delta State and Nigeria are proud of her antecedents. He joined her family, global colleagues and associates, friends, and well-wishers to thank Almighty God for her life, which has been evidently blessed with sterling accomplishments and amazing fulfillment.

Governor Oborevwori prayed that Almighty God blesses her with good health and many more years of happiness and contributions to the global economy.

Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala has a long and illustrious career in international development and finance. She served as Nigeria’s Finance Minister twice and was also a Managing Director of the World Bank. She has been a vocal advocate for African development and is widely respected for her expertise and leadership in global economic issues. Her appointment as the first female Director-General of WTO in March 2021 was a historic moment for Africa and the world.
