Mallam Isa Yuguda, former governor of Bauchi State, has revealed that the removal of fuel subsidy was a necessary move that should have been done even during the Buhari administration. In an interview with Channels TV’s Sunrise Daily show, he stated that the reason Buhari did not remove the subsidy was not due to a lack of awareness, but rather due to the risk the removal might place on his life due to the reaction of citizens.
He also stated that the previous governments have not been transparent with Nigerians over the implementation of a fuel subsidy removal strategy.
Yuguda further stated that the fuel subsidy scam has always been present, and past governments ignored the pain of suffering Nigerians. He revealed that during his tenure, they discovered situations where subsidy was claimed on pipelines that never existed.
He added that the removal of the subsidy is a necessary move that should have been done by the previous administrations and that the government should have been more transparent about it.
