Dapo Abiodun reiterates commitment to collaborating with Nigerian Navy to secure Tongeji Island

Ogun State Governor, Dapo Abiodun, has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to collaborating with the Nigerian Navy to ensure the protection of lives and property of Nigerians living in Tongeji Island, which falls under Ipokia Local Government Area of the State. During a working visit by the Flag Officer commanding Western Naval Command, Rear Admiral Mohammed Abdulahi, Abiodun noted that the Island is a critical part of Nigeria and Ogun State and that the government is putting all efforts towards making inhabitants of the Island feel a sense of belonging.

Abiodun commended the efforts of the Nigerian Navy for the renewed commitment they have demonstrated by deploying more personnel to the Island, a complete departure from the usual scanty presence of security operatives on the Island. The Governor also promised to continue supporting the Navy in securing the Island as it is blessed with abundant mineral and natural resources which the State government has planned to explore in partnership with relevant stakeholders.

The visit by Rear Admiral Mohammed Abdulahi is part of the Navy’s renewed commitment to ensuring the security of the Island and its inhabitants. The Nigerian Navy has deployed more personnel to Tongeji Island to provide security and maintain law and order.

 

The Navy’s efforts have been welcomed by the people of the Island, who have expressed their gratitude to the government for the increased security presence and for the commitment to protecting their lives and properties.
