Lagos Assembly Preaches Proper Clearing Of Drainage

On Tuesday, Lagos State House of Assembly urged the Ministry of Environment and other relevant agencies to look into clearing all drainages to aid proper carting of refuse in the state.

Members of the House also decided to call on the Permanent Secretary, Office of Drainage Services, to fill the lawmakers in on the agency’s preparation before, during and after the rainfalls.

Also, the House resolved to urge the Ministry of Information and Strategy to sensitise and advocate to ensure the drainages are cleared to prevent flooding.

Kehinde Joseph, the lawmaker representing Alimosho II at the Assembly, raised the matter under ‘Matter of Urgent Public Importance’, stating the alarming rate of flooding in his constituency.

The lawmaker noted that the foods have ruined some houses and submerged others, rendering many homeless and property destroyed.

“Though the causes of the flood have been natural and man-made, there is a need for Ministries, Departments and Agencies to be proficient in their duties,” he added.

Also speaking, Sanni Okanlawon noted the recurrent nature of the flooding, urging relevant ministries to take up their responsibilities while suggesting proper structures be put in place.
