Lagos Begins Clearing Shanties Along Blue Line Rail Corridor on Lagos/Badagry Expressway

Commissioner for the Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, has taken decisive action to restore the right of way for the Lagos Blue Line Rail corridor.
In line with the directives of Mr. Governor, Wahab supervised the removal of shanties on the setback and rights of way from Orile to Iyana Iba. Accompanied by officials from various departments, including the Office of Environmental Services and the Office of Drainage Services, the Commissioner emphasized the importance of ensuring a complete restoration of the right of way. Wahab also highlighted the significance of observing the setback along the Lagos Badagry Expressway, which is an international highway.
The enforcement action comes after the expiration of the one-month notice given by Mr. Governor to street traders, squatters, and occupiers of shanties and abandoned vehicles along the Lagos-Badagry Expressway stretch.
Commissioner Wahab, on an inspection tour, expressed concern about the illegal settlement at Agboju, where squatters have built shanties and occupied government land. The Commissioner’s aim is to secure the right of way and dismantle illegal trading sites along the corridor. This proactive approach ensures a safe and clear pathway for the development of the Lagos Blue Line Rail and the Lagos Badagry Expressway.
By taking action to clear the path for the Lagos Blue Line Rail and observing the setback along the Lagos Badagry Expressway, the government aims to create a conducive environment for economic growth and improved connectivity.
