Governor Makinde confirms Ibadan Explosion Traced to Illegal Miners’ Explosives, Claims Two Lives and Injures 77

In a significant update on the explosion that rocked the Bodija Area of Ibadan on Tuesday, Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde revealed on Wednesday that the incident was caused by explosive devices stored by illegal miners. Preliminary investigations by security agencies indicated that the illegal miners occupied a house in Bodija where they stored these explosive devices, leading to the powerful blast that claimed two lives and left 77 others injured.

Governor Makinde, who visited the scene of the explosion Tuesday night, stated that further investigations were ongoing to ascertain all details surrounding the incident. He emphasized that anyone found culpable would be brought to book for their role in the tragic event.

“In total, we have 77 injured victims so far, most of whom were treated and discharged, and two fatalities. May their souls rest in peace and may God give their loved ones the fortitude to bear this irreparable loss,” the governor announced, expressing condolences to the affected families. He assured that the government would cover the medical bills of the victims and support those whose houses were affected in rebuilding their lives.

Rescue operations were promptly initiated at the scene, with earth-moving equipment, ambulances, emergency lights, and security personnel deployed. Governor Makinde urged residents to remain calm, stay away from the immediate scene of the incident, and contact emergency services at 615 for any assistance. The medical personnel are actively providing aid to the injured in public and private hospitals within Ibadan.
