NYSC Ogun Clears Air on Death of Corps Member

In a media parley with newsmen on Tuesday, the Ogun State Coordinator of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), Nasamu Olayinka Diana, has refuted recent reports of a corps member’s death in Ogijo.

Diana emphasized the need for accurate information dissemination, clarifying that the deceased individual was not affiliated with the NYSC.

Addressing the media, Diana stressed the importance of verifying details before reporting on such sensitive matters.

“You cannot say someone is a Corp member without the code number, without the place of primary assignment, without anything identifying him as a Corp member,” she stated.

She highlighted the swift confirmation process, stating that it “won’t take us 30 minutes to confirm a story.”

The NYSC official expressed concern about the potential damage to the organization’s reputation due to misleading reports.

“Writing that is not a good image projection for us, we want positive projection of our image. NYSC is an household name, and there’s no household that is not a benefactor of this scheme.”

She urged media outlets to collaborate with NYSC for accurate and positive representation. Despite challenges, she emphasized the scheme’s continued relevance in society, attributing its resilience to the support it receives.
