Three Buildings Engulfed in Flames at Lagos Market Intersection

A devastating fire erupted on Wednesday at the intersection of Nnamdi Azikiwe in the bustling Idumota area of Lagos Island, Lagos State, engulfing three buildings. Videos shared by netizens captured the intensity of the blaze.

Confirming the incident, the state Fire and Rescue Service acknowledged the destruction, stating that the fire affected two two-storey buildings and one three-storey building. Firefighters swiftly responded to the emergency, deploying resources to the scene to contain the situation.

Director of the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, Margaret Adeseye, disclosed, “The Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service has been alerted to a Fire emergency at the intersection of Nnamdi Azikiwe and Docemo in Idumota, Lagos. Upon arrival, it was discovered that the fire encompasses three buildings.”

Adeseye further emphasized that firefighting efforts were underway, with resources from various fire stations in Ebute Elefun, Ilupeju, and Alausa being mobilized for effective mitigation. The cause of the fire remains unknown, and investigations are ongoing, with no reported casualties at the time of the statement.

The incident echoes previous tragedies, including the devastating fire in January that razed the popular Mandilas building on Broad Street, where thousands of traders lost their goods, and numerous shops, offices, hotels, and restaurants were destroyed.
