Lagos Court Grants Cubana Chief Priest N10m Bail in Naira Abuse Case

The Federal High Court in Lagos State granted Pascal Okechukwu, widely known as Cubana Chief Priest, bail in the sum of N10 million with two sureties of like sum. This decision was made by Justice Kehinde Ogundare during Cubana Chief Priest’s trial for alleged tampering and abuse of the naira.

Cubana Chief Priest pleaded not guilty to the charges, which included three counts related to the abuse of the nation’s currency in violation of the Central Bank Act of 2007. The allegations stemmed from an incident on February 13, 2024, at Eko Hotel, where he was accused of spraying and tampering with the naira during a social event, an act deemed unlawful under the provisions of the law.

According to the prosecution, Cubana Chief Priest was observed spraying funds in N500 denomination notes issued by the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) for a duration of two hours while participating in the social event. The court’s decision to grant bail comes amid ongoing legal proceedings, with further details expected to emerge as the case progresses.
