2027: Wike, Chinda, Others Hold Strategic Meeting in Spain Without Fubara

Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, and other key stakeholders of the Rainbow Coalition in Rivers State have reportedly held a strategic meeting in Spain ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The meeting, which was said to have taken place recently, was attended by several prominent political figures, including the Executive Director of Projects and Infrastructural Development at the South South Development Commission, Chief Marcus Nle Ejii.
Also present were the Chancellor of the University of Port Harcourt, Senator Mao Ohabunwa, and the All Progressives Congress governorship candidate in Rivers State, Kingsley Ogundu Chinda.However, Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, who recently identified with the coalition, was reportedly absent from the meeting.
The purpose of the gathering was not made public. However, the meeting is believed to be connected to political preparations for the January and February 2027 general elections.The development comes shortly after Wike declared Chinda, a member of the House of Representatives, as his preferred candidate to succeed Governor Fubara.
The former Rivers State governor has remained a major political figure in the state, while his relationship with the incumbent governor has continued to attract attention ahead of the next election.
The reported meeting is expected to generate further interest among political stakeholders as parties and coalitions begin to intensify their preparations for the 2027 polls.According to the Independent National Electoral Commission, the campaign period for the February 6, 2027 governorship election in Rivers State commenced on Tuesday, September 8, 2026.
The commission’s timetable marks the beginning of formal campaign activities as political parties and their candidates prepare to present their programmes and seek the support of voters.
With the election approaching, the reported absence of Governor Fubara from the Spain meeting, alongside Wike’s endorsement of Chinda, may further fuel discussions about the political direction of the Rainbow Coalition in Rivers State.
