TASUED Shuts Down Following Clash With Iwamaje Community Over Student’s Death

A clash has erupted between the Tai Solarin University of Education (TASUED) and the Iwamaje community in Ogun State following the death of a 300 level student of Social Studies identified as Bayo. The student was allegedly killed by community guards of Iwamaje community on Sunday, May 28, 2023.
The reaction of the students to the killing of their colleague led to the setting ablaze of about four houses including the palace of the Baale of Imaweje community. Some community members revealed that the dead student was a member of a cult group which the Iwamaje community had chased out from their vicinity.
The Student Union Government (SUG) President of the institution, Emmanuel Hammed Akinjetan, noted that the school management was yet to provide the reason for the pandemonium and waits the university PRO to send a memo on the cause of the clash.
In a statement issued by the Registrar of the school, Dapo Oke called for an emergency meeting of the Senate on Tuesday, May 30, 2023 to review the situation and take further necessary actions. He added that the university will be closed for two weeks to prevent further breakdown of law and order as security agents have been called to take over the matter.
