Lagos State Government to Launch New Initiatives to Combat Building Collapse

The Lagos State Government is set to launch new initiatives to combat the incessant building collapse in the state. The Certificate Accreditor Programme (CAP) and the Certificate Structural Integrity Programme (CSIP) are part of the government’s plan to boost public confidence in the system with the involvement of private professionals in regulatory activities in the built environment sector of Lagos State.

The new initiatives would enhance livability and make Lagos State a 21st-century economy as contained in the blueprint of the Babajide Sanwo-Olu Administration.

The Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Physical Planning and Urban Development, Oluwole Sotire, said that the CAP and CSIP would herald a new dawn of efficiency and combat incessant building collapse.

He added that the new initiatives, together with others, such as the preparation of masterplans, of which the Lagos Island Model City Plan is a significant part, indicate the determination of the state government to enhance livability and make Lagos State a 21st-century economy.

The Lagos State Government is billed to meet and dialogue with members of professional associations in the built environment on the CAP and CSIP at the MUSON Centre, Onikan, on Tuesday, July 11, 2023.

The new initiatives are expected to boost public confidence in the regulatory system and ensure that buildings in Lagos State adhere to the highest standards of safety and structural integrity.
