Lagos State Governor Announces Renewal of Tenures of State Council of Obas, Chiefs

Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has announced the renewal of the tenures of the Lagos State Council of Obas and Chiefs for another term. The tenure of Oba Riliwanu Aremu Akiolu, the Oba of Lagos, as the chairman of the council, will also continue.

The monarchs’ role in preserving cultural heritage and contemporary governance is crucial. Governor Sanwo-Olu emphasized the importance of keeping Lagos safe for business and habitation and the significant role the council plays as institutions that interact heavily with communities.

The government has continued to support traditional rulers in Lagos State to enhance their mobility and general upkeep, as well as the construction and renovation of palaces across the state.

The governor believes that these efforts will aid in the seamless discharge of the monarchs’ duties in their respective domains. It is excellent news that the Lagos State Council of Obas and Chiefs will continue to serve for another term, and we hope that the council will continue to play a crucial role in preserving cultural heritage and promoting good governance in Lagos State.
