The Ogun State Government has taken a firm stand against transport unions operating illegal parks on road setbacks along the bustling Lagos-Ibadan Expressway.

In particular, the government has issued a stern warning to those found in the Isheri and Kara axis of the state. The Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Environment, Farook Akintunde, led a special taskforce on environmental compliance and enforcement to these areas to address the transporters and highlight the implications of their actions.

The recovered setbacks, resulting from previous demolitions of shanties and makeshift structures, were intended to be beautified to reflect the state’s industrial status. However, despite the ongoing efforts by government officials to clean and landscape the area, the transport unions and their members have relocated their vehicles to these cleared spaces. This has not only been obstructive but also a challenge to the government’s authority and responsibilities.

The state government has clarified it that it will not tolerate this behavior and has threatened to impound vehicles found at these undesignated parks.

They are determined to ensure that the axis undergoes a transformation that aligns with the state’s image and industrial development. The government remains committed to beautifying the area and creating a conducive environment for all.
