Fatal Multi-Vehicle Collision on Lagos-Ibadan Expressway Claims Three Lives
A catastrophic multi-vehicle accident on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway has resulted in the tragic loss of three lives. The incident occurred on Thursday evening at approximately 7 pm, near the Kara section of the expressway, specifically at Isheri-Olofin, on the outbound lane from Lagos State.
Eyewitness accounts indicate that a truck driver transporting sugar lost control of the vehicle, sparking a chain reaction of collisions involving multiple vehicles. The vehicles involved included an SF3000 truck, a Toyota Camry car with the number plate EPE 200 GK, an Isuzu mini truck with the number plate T-1079 LA, and a Honda Accord car.
Michael, a fuel attendant at a nearby filling station, recounted the harrowing scene, stating, “The accident involved three vehicles, including one loaded with bags of sugar. I heard that some people lost their lives, and I saw several injured passengers being rushed to the hospital.”
Omolola Odutola, spokesperson for the Ogun State Police Command, confirmed the incident and reported that the victims had been transported to a hospital in Lagos for medical attention. “Three passengers, including two women and one man, succumbed to their injuries at the scene. The injured were taken to the emergency clinic at Old Toll Gate in Ojota for treatment. The Lagos State Fire Service was present to extinguish the fire and manage the situation.”
Amodu Shakiru, spokesperson for the Lagos State Fire Service, added, “Although the incident occurred in Ogun State, our team responded promptly to mitigate the situation. The accident took place along the Kara Bridge, and we worked to ensure the safety of all parties involved.”
This devastating incident marks the second fatal crash on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway in as many days, following a similar accident on Wednesday that resulted in the death of an unidentified driver and injuries to three other passengers on the Ogun State section of the expressway. Authorities are actively working to apprehend the truck driver who fled the scene, and a comprehensive investigation is underway.
