Dangote Expresses Regret Over Missing Out on Arsenal Acquisition

Nigerian billionaire and President of Dangote Group, Alhaji Aliko Dangote, has revealed his disappointment at not purchasing English Premier League club Arsenal when its valuation was significantly lower.

In an exclusive interview with Bloomberg’s Francine Lacqua in New York, Dangote expressed his nostalgia for the missed opportunity, citing the club’s current value of around $4 billion.

Dangote initially expressed interest in acquiring Arsenal in 2020, intending to pursue the purchase after completing his refinery project. However, he has now abandoned those plans, citing the substantial financial investment required. “I think that time has passed,” Dangote stated. “Arsenal wasn’t doing well back then, but now they’re performing exceptionally well.”

When questioned about his regret over not acquiring the club at a lower valuation of $2 billion, Dangote acknowledged, “Actually, I regret not buying it before, but my money was more needed in completing my project (Dangote refinery) than buying Arsenal.”
