DPO Sakura, VSO Commandant Join Forces to Tackle Scavengers/Residents Related Issues in Sagamu

Residents of Sagamu have expressed concerns over the increasing cases of theft and havoc perpetrated by scavengers in the town. Several complaints have been lodged regarding the scavengers’ dishonest practices, prompting a meeting between security officials and community stakeholders.
A resident, who wished to remain anonymous, shared his ordeal with a scavenger. “I hired a scavenger to help me dispose of my refuse. He took the refuse and left, but when I returned from work, I caught him leaving my compound with an abandoned steel we had kept at the corner.”
To address the issue, the Divisional Police Officer of Sakura Police Station and Kehinde ogunsanu VSO Commandant, Sagamu met with community stakeholders. They urged residents to be cautious and security-conscious.
Residents were advised not to allow scavengers into their homes or compounds. Instead, they should bring refuse and metal materials for sale outside for dumping and sales. Additionally, no private transactions should be conducted with scavengers.
Security officials aim to reduce theft and restore normalcy to the community. They vowed to take necessary measures to prevent scavengers from accessing residents’ homes, which would help curb theft.
The meeting also highlighted that some individuals sell stolen materials to scavengers in private. By bringing items outside for sale, residents can help expose those involved in theft.
The security officials assured residents that they would work tirelessly to address the issue and maintain law and order in Sagamu.
