Tanker Explosion Rocks Otedola Bridge in Lagos

A devastating tanker explosion occurred at Otedola Bridge in Lagos, Nigeria, on Tuesday, March 11, 2025, at approximately 7 p.m. The incident was triggered by a petrol tanker accident, which resulted in a massive fire on the bridge along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway.

Eyewitnesses reported that the tanker lost control, fell, and spilled fuel onto the road, causing the fuel to ignite. Unfortunately, hoodlums were seen scooping fuel from the spilled tanker, thereby interfering with rescue efforts.

Emergency responders, including the Lagos State Fire Service and the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA), swiftly deployed to the scene to contain the situation. Dr. Femi Oke-Osanyintolu, the Permanent Secretary of LASEMA, assured that efforts were ongoing to control the fire and prevent further accidents.

Fortunately, as of the latest report, there were no confirmed casualties. However, the situation was still being closely monitored. Motorists and residents have been advised to steer clear of the area while responders work to contain the situation.

The Otedola Bridge tanker explosion has raised concerns about road safety and the need for more effective measures to prevent such incidents in the future. The Lagos State Government has been urged to take proactive steps to address the issue and ensure the safety of road users.
