BREAKING: Protest erupts in Ondo over abduction of nine Surveyors
A group of protesters, mostly women, took to the streets of Akure, the capital city of Ondo State, to demand the release of nine surveyors who were abducted by unknown kidnappers. The protesters, carrying placards and chanting slogans, blocked the popular Oba Adesida road, causing a major disruption to traffic.
According to eyewitnesses, the surveyors, all of whom are from Akure, were kidnapped last week while working on a project at Owode Ilu-Abo in Akure South local government area. The kidnappers have reportedly demanded a ransom of N50 million before they will begin negotiations for the release of the hostages.
Comfort Afolabi, a sister of one of the kidnapped surveyors, spoke to reporters about the incident. “My brother and his colleagues were taken away by the kidnappers last week,” she said. “We have been trying to negotiate with them, but they are demanding a huge sum of money. We are appealing to the government and security agencies to come to our aid and rescue our loved ones.”
The protest, which was peaceful, drew attention to the growing concern about insecurity in the region. The protesters called on the government to take immediate action to rescue the kidnapped surveyors and to address the underlying issues that have led to the rise in kidnapping and other violent crimes in the area.
The Ondo State government has yet to comment on the incident, but security agencies have reportedly launched an investigation into the kidnapping. The protesters have vowed to continue their demonstrations until the surveyors are released and the perpetrators are brought to justice.
