FEDERAL UNIVERSITY OF AGRICULTURE ABEOKUTA SEEKS GOVERNMENT PARTNERSHIP IN ONGOING DAM CONSTRUCTION
The water challenge being faced by students of the Federal University of Agriculture Abeokuta is soon to be a thing of the past, as the school has
constructed a seven-billion-litre capacity dam in Mawuko, in the Odeda Local Government Area of the state.
The Vice Chancellor of the University, Professor Felix Salako, on Tuesday conducted journalists round some of the projects he executed within his five years tenure which include: Senate building extension; 2.6 million water reservoirs; palm oil and cashew modern processing plants; newly constructed Wole Soyinka digital library and engineering building named after former President Olusegun Obasanjo, among others.
He said the construction of the dam started in 2018 to stop water supply problems on the campus.
He said, “The dam project started from the beginning of this administration in 2018, and we were able to complete it up to this stage. The only thing it remains is piping the water to campus. Immediately we get the fund, we will do that.
The essence of the dam is to provide water for this university. We have been digging boreholes here and there.”
Speaking on collaboration, the VC said the university was not opposed to the idea, but insisting that the partnership must be win-win.
He said, “Government can come in to partner with us, we wouldn’t mind, but it must be partnership with equity”
