Democracy Day: Odulate Pays Tribute to June 12 Heroes, Calls for Unity

The Executive Chairman of Sagamu Local Government, Ogbeni Jubril Olasile Odulate, has described June 12 as a powerful symbol of the people’s voice, courage and commitment to democratic governance, saying the date remains a defining moment in Nigeria’s democratic journey.

 

In a message to mark the 2026 Democracy Day celebration, Odulate paid tribute to the men and women whose sacrifices helped secure democratic rule in the country, noting that their legacy continues to inspire citizens and leaders alike. He said the observance serves as a reminder that nation-building requires collective responsibility, patriotism and dedication to the ideals of democracy.

 

According to him, the contributions of the nation’s democratic heroes remain evident in every electoral process, every vote cast and every effort aimed at advancing national development. He stressed the need for Nigerians to uphold the values of unity, peaceful coexistence and active participation in governance.

 

The council chairman also called on residents of Sagamu and Nigerians across the country to support initiatives that promote development and good governance, expressing optimism that the country’s democratic institutions would continue to grow stronger.

 

Odulate further expressed hope that the commemoration of Democracy Day would inspire greater confidence in the nation’s future and strengthen the collective resolve to build a society where peace, progress and opportunities are accessible to all citizens.
