Lagos, Ogun brace for nine-hour daily power outage
The entire Lagos State and parts of Ogun, including areas such as Sagamu, Ogijo, and Abeokuta, will face a 25-day power outage beginning July 28.
According to the Association of Nigerian Electricity Distributors (ANED), the interruption is due to scheduled maintenance by the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN).
Electricity supply will be cut daily from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. throughout the period.
ANED’s CEO, Sunday Oduntan, confirmed the development during an interview on TVC, stating that the outage would impact all of Lagos and several communities in Ogun State.
The TCN had earlier said that the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission and the Nigeria Independent System Operator granted it the approval for a critical infrastructure upgrade in one of its 330kV lines, wheeling bulk power to Lagos and its environs.
“The upgrade involves the installation of Optical Ground Wire fibre cable on the Omotosho/Ikeja West 330kV transmission line, scheduled from July 28, 2025, to August 21, 2025, from 8 am to 5 pm,” the TCN stated.
It explained that while power would be restored through the line after each day’s work, all other circuits would remain operational to ensure a stable power supply to the Lagos complex during the exercise.
Upon completion, the upgrade will allow for the full activation of the Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) system, significantly improving real-time monitoring and management of the national power grid.
According to ANED CEO Sunday Oduntan, the power system will be shut down daily for safety reasons throughout the maintenance period.
In an official notice, the Ikeja Electricity Distribution Company (IKEDC) announced that the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) will carry out scheduled maintenance on the Omotosho–Ikeja West 330kV transmission line from Monday, July 28 to Thursday, August 21, 2025, between 8:00 AM and 5:00 PM daily.
The company noted that during this time, customers should expect intermittent power supply and load shedding across its network.

Similarly, the Eko Electricity Distribution Company (EKEDC) confirmed that the planned outage is to enable safe maintenance work on the same transmission line.
EKEDC added that the outage and load shedding would affect all areas within its network.
Meanwhile, Oduntan reassured the public that power supply would return to normal once the maintenance is completed as scheduled.
