Ogun State Governor Abiodun to Concession Olumo Rock, Announces Free Entry for Tourists
Ogun State Governor, Dapo Abiodun, has announced plans to concession the newly renovated Olumo Rock Tourist Complex to a reputable organization for effective management.
He also revealed that tourists will enjoy free entry to the site for two months, as part of efforts to promote tourism and cultural appreciation among residents.
The governor made this known on Thursday during the official commissioning of the tourist complex in Abeokuta, the state capital.
For centuries, it has stood tall, offering safety and identity to the Egba people in times of conflict and change.
“Renovating this sacred site is not just about infrastructure; it is about reviving memory, rekindling pride, and reaffirming our cultural roots.
The site connects us to our roots.
We recognise that tourism, when properly developed, can generate employment, attract investment, promote cultural understanding, and serve as a catalyst for community development,” the statement quoted.
Abiodun, while calling on foreign tourists to visit the state, stressed his administration’s commitment to the growth of tourism
He emphasised the importance of tourism to the socio-economic development of the state, adding that the Olumo Rock Tourism Complex would be put on concession to a reputable organisation for proper management.
“Socially, Olumo Rock reminds us of who we are: a people of strength, a people of courage, a people of ingenuity, and a people of unity. Spiritually, it connects us with our roots and reaffirms the values that we find in our collective identity. It stands as a cultural invitation to the world.
“My administration’s goal is to establish tourist sites across the state, assuring that the renovated Olumo Rock Tourist Complex would be concessioned to a reputable organisation for its proper upkeep,” the statement added.
Also speaking, the Alake and Paramount Ruler of Egbaland, Oba Adedotun Gbadebo, relished that the Olumo Rock was a sanctuary for the Egba people.
The monarch observed that apart from serving as a place where prayers are answered, the rock serves as a place for relaxation for fun seekers, even as he appreciated Governor Abiodun for giving the facility a facelift.
The Chief Executive Officer of Nike Arts Gallery, Nike Okundaye, expressed confidence that the renovated Olumo Rock Tourist Complex would draw visitors from across the globe.
“We plan to bring art enthusiasts and representatives from museums around the world to come and celebrate our rich culture and heritage at Olumo,” she said.
“There will be an exchange of knowledge—what we share with them and what they bring in return will benefit everyone. It will lead to job creation and provide people with new skills and ideas to increase their income.
“This site is set to become the number one tourist destination in the country—just give it two years,” she added.
