Police in Ogun Rescue 24-Year-Old Ghanaian Trafficked Through Fake Canada Travel Scheme, Arrest Five

The Nigeria Police Force has successfully rescued a 24-year-old Ghanaian man who fell victim to a human trafficking syndicate and has arrested five suspects—comprising both Nigerian and Ghanaian nationals—linked to the crime. The breakthrough followed a carefully coordinated operation in Ofada, Ogun State.

In a statement from the Force Headquarters, the rescue was carried out by operatives of the INTERPOL Annex, FCID Alagbon, Lagos, after a formal request for support was received from the National Central Bureau (NCB) in Accra, Ghana, on September 15, 2025. The Ghanaian authorities had raised concerns about the victim, who was reportedly lured with a fraudulent promise of traveling to Canada, only to be trafficked into Nigeria and held against his will.

The police disclosed that upon receiving the request, intelligence was swiftly gathered, leading to the deployment of INTERPOL operatives to Ogun State. Their efforts culminated in the safe recovery of the victim and the arrest of five suspected members of the trafficking ring.

Authorities noted that the suspects are currently in custody and undergoing interrogation, with investigations ongoing to uncover the full network behind the cross-border scheme. The Force emphasized its commitment to strengthening international collaboration against human trafficking and reassured the public that those found culpable would face the full weight of the law.
